March 2005 - The Forum of Fargo Moorhead's Web site links to an article in the Twin Cities Pioneer Press, "Volunteers care for a cat colony by neutering and releasing them". The article is about a man in Anoka, Minn., who, along with volunteers last fall, began a spay and release program to try to address the feral cat epidemic across their state and across the country. The "spay not slay" is a compromise between traditionalists who believe in killing feral cats, and cat lovers who choose to feed the cats even though they will multiply. The articles atated that there are an estimated 73 million feral cats roaming nationwide, which is roughly the same number of cats we keep as pets.
